Henry Ross backs former rival Nunnelee
North Mississippi Republicans began closing ranks behind 1st District House nominee Alan Nunnelee on Thursday when primary opponent Henry Ross formally endorsed Nunnelee in his bid to unseat Rep. Travis Childers, D-Miss.
Ross, who had hoped to force Nunnelee into a runoff in the June 1 GOP primary, said he was proud to have been a part of a “spirited primary” but now sees Nunnelee as “the best chance of restoring a conservative representative to Congress” in the 1st District, which covers most of North Mississippi including DeSoto County.
Ross, with 33 percent of the vote, finished second to Nunnelee’s 52 percent victory margin. A third GOP candidate, Angela McGlowan, got 15 percent of the vote.
DeSoto County turnout was low but mirrored the districtwide results by giving Nunnelee the most votes, followed by Ross and McGlowan.
