Oil spill: Keep oil away, not tourists
There is no way to rationalize the disaster developing in the Gulf of Mexico from the BP PLC oil spill. It is a disaster of proportions that grow more ominous daily.
At the same time, it is important to go on facts and not let fear do more damage to Gulf Coast tourism than it already is.
Gov. Haley Barbour has been attempting to allay fears and maintain visitation to the Coast, while intense efforts continue to deal with the massive, growing oil spill.
The spill already is impacting the businesses that depend on tourism, such as hotels and charter boats.
