For the second time, the Mississippi House has voted against a resolution to push the session back by 30 days and bring lawmakers back in April to deal with the 2011 fiscal budget.
But that remains a possibility as House and Senate budget writers missed Wednesday’s deadline to advance more than 100 budget bills to the chamber floors.
“I’ll guess we’ll take another run at it (today),” House Appropriations Chairman Johnny Stringer said after the resolution failed by three votes.
The 78-43 vote in favor of a session hiatus did not meet the two-thirds requirement to push back the April 3 session deadline.
The House can act on the resolution up until Monday. Lawmakers also could lift some soft deadlines and work through the weekend to wrap up the budget and finish on time.
