Governor Barbour to discuss state budget later today
JACKSON, MS (WLOX) – Governor Haley Barbour will hold a news conference later today to talk about the state budget. This comes at a time when falling revenue is forcing all state agencies to operate with less.
The State Tax Commission reported in February that Mississippi’s tax collection was down about 12.4 percent or $33 million. This was the eighteenth consecutive month Mississippi’s revenues have fallen below expectations.
Governor Barbour has already cut $458.5 million from what was a $6 billion budget last July. And he has said that number is likely to increase.
