Gov. Haley Barbour has signed a bill to establish the Mississippi Persian Gulf War Memorial.
The memorial would be located near the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton.
Randy Reeves, deputy director of the Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board, says the memorial will honor the Mississippians who have died as a result of their service in the Persian Gulf War dating back to August 1990.
Barbour signed the bill Monday, and it took effect immediately.
