District 1 opponents Childers, Nunnelee take different paths

District 1 opponents Childers, Nunnelee take different paths

“By achieving contender status, Nunnelee has already proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve vital fundraising goals,” the NRCC said in a news release.

The two candidates’ quarterly campaign finance reports are due to the Federal Election Commission by Jan. 31.

Those reports should show how much fundraising progress Childers and Nunnelee have made since their first reports were released in September, when Childers held a substantial lead.

Nunnelee noted that the second-tier Young Guns recognition means he has moved into one of the top 13 congressional races in the country.

“I think that’s a reflection of the fundraising,” he said.

The January report, he said, “is going to be very good. It’s going to show broad support throughout North Mississippi.”

Childers, meantime, said he is concentrating on serving his district.

“There’s a time to campaign, and there’s a time to serve. And we’re serving,” he said.
