Mabus sworn in as new Navy secretary
In a ceremony infused with military fanfare, former Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus was sworn in Thursday as the new secretary of the Navy.
“I never dreamed I would be here,” Mabus told an audience of more than 500 at the Washington Navy Yard. “I’m proud to finally come home to the Navy.”
Earlier in the day, Vice President Joe Biden met with Mabus in a private ceremony at the White House to administer the oath of office.
President Barack Obama nominated Mabus to the post earlier this year. Mabus was confirmed by the Senate last month and started his new job soon after, but his official swearing-in ceremony waited until Thursday.
