Council delays vote on Melton’s legal bills
The Jackson City Council said Tuesday that it needs more time to decide how to settle pending legal matters involving late Mayor Frank Melton.
The council met behind closed doors for about 50 minutes Tuesday to discuss several legal matters.
No vote was taken on the two most high-profile issues — whether to pay Melton’s attorney fees from his federal civil rights trial and how to proceed with a related civil lawsuit.
Acting Mayor Leslie Burl McLemore said he hopes the council will be ready to vote at its meeting next week.
“We thought we needed some more time to discuss the issues,” he said.
