Miss. Senate to vote on Butch Brown next week
The Mississippi Senate will decide next week whether Butch Brown should continue as executive director of the state Department of Transportation.
Like other agency directors, Brown must be reconfirmed by the Senate in order to serve another term. But legislative criticism of his tenure has put him in the spotlight.
Some lawmakers have complained MDOT lacks sufficient oversight. Brown and MDOT’s commissioners have been criticized for costly decisions, such as the purchase of a helicopter to chase alleged gasoline smugglers and tens of thousands spent traveling both inside the United States and to international destinations.
