Miss. leader seeks to block voter ID
A Mississippi lawmaker is asking a Hinds County judge to toss a lawsuit intended on getting the issue of voter identification on a statewide ballot.
Voter ID laws have repeatedly failed to advance at the state Capitol, so some elected officials want voters to decide whether they should be required to show identification at the polls. State Sen. Joey Fillingane is asking a judge to clarify the rules for gathering the 90,000 signatures needed to put the issue on a ballot.
State Rep. Credell Calhoun, D-Jackson, wants Fillingane’s lawsuit dismissed.
