Jackson projects bond bill goes to governor

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 11, 2009

The Clarion-Ledger, 3/10/9

Legislation that would help pay for a major project in downtown Jackson is headed to Gov. Haley Barbour for consideration.

Senate Bill 3281 would allow the state to issue $20 million in bonds and then lend the money to Hinds County for the Old Capitol Green Project. The money would have to be repaid with interest.

The ambitious, roughly $1 billion project is designed to stretch across 16 downtown blocks in Jackson with retail, office and residential space, along with a movie theater. It could take 15 years to complete.
