Miss. Senate votes to ban traffic cameras
House Bill 1568 overwhelmingly passed the Senate and is headed back to the House for more work.
The bill prohibits cities and counties from passing ordinances that use traffic cameras to catch red-light runners. It also requires cities that already use the cameras to take them down by Oct. 1.
At least five cities in Mississippi, including Jackson, use traffic cameras or have agreed to begin using them. Some cities have put their plans on hold while House Bill 1568 progresses.
