Jackson mayor officially enters race for 2nd term
Melton faces at least nine Democratic contenders, including a city councilman and a state senator.
Melton started the morning at a meeting with his department heads. He told them that he would keep all of them if he wins a second term.
The question of whether Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin should be retained as Jackson police chief varies amongst the mayoral candidates. But don’t expect a change under Melton.
“I intend to stay with the same team I have had for the last three and a half years, and I feel very strongly about that,” Melton told the city employees including McMillin.
The department heads followed Melton to the city clerk’s office as he turned in his paperwork.
