Mayor’s race: It’s not too early to contemplate

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 7, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 10/7/8

If the Jackson mayor’s race were held today, would you vote for Frank Melton?

The incumbent elected three years ago – yes, it seems like ages since then! – says he intends to run for re-election.

With the filing deadline months away, no one has officially put in the paperwork to become a candidate.

But several individuals – some old faces and some new ones in the speculation – say they will make an announcement before the March 6, 2009, filing deadline. Party primaries are May 5, and general election June 2.
