Mississippi made it to the top of a positive list, coming in number 1 in the country for income growth in the second quarter of 2008. But most of that growth is thanks to the economic stimulus checks targeted for lower income families.
Statistics released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis show personal income in Mississippi grew 3.5 percent, with 2.8 percent of that growth from the federal economic stimulus checks. The checks had much less of an impact on high income states in the Northeast.
The BEA reported personal income in the U.S. grew 1.8 percent, with growth accelerating in all but five states.
