Auditor’s office recovers funds

Former Tishomingo County Sheriff David Smith and former Chief Deputy Rodney Pannell have paid $66,104 toward a $76,000 demand notice from the state auditor’s office for missing equipment and missing funds.

The auditor’s office received a complaint following a routine audit and opened an investigation in August 2002, closing it this year. The funds were recovered from Smith’s bond company and the Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department, according to a news release from State Auditor Stacey Pickering.
