Katrina lawyers disqualified

Former Attorney General Mike Moore advised Hood during settlement negotiations that ended the criminal investigation and later worked with Scruggs on policyholder cases, but he had withdrawn from those cases before Senter’s ruling.

Another SKG member firm withdrew from the group in early 2007 and sued Scruggs, saying he was not fairly distributing $26.5 million in legal fees from the State Farm settlement. Scruggs conspired with members of his firm and two others to bribe the judge in that case. He withdrew from SKG, which changed its name, after being indicted in November.

The Rigsbys face their own legal problems. Alabama-based Renfroe is suing the women in federal court in Birmingham for breach of contract. Renfroe maintains they violated employment agreements to keep company records confidential.
