Alderman hopeful: Tax bill paid

By: Magnolia Tribune - March 7, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 3/7/8

Greg Cronin, a candidate in Tuesday’s runoff for Clinton Board of Alderman Ward 4, owed $5,409.24 in taxes but said late Thursday the entire bill had been paid.

He was late on taxes on his home and business, the Cascades Racquet Club, according to the Hinds County tax collector’s office. He sad he had planned to pay them In March, explaining that his accountant was still working on them.

But he said later he had paid the bill and late penalties via the Internet.

“Like many businesses, I settle my property taxes along with my annual filing,” Cronin said in a statement. “I chose to delay my business filing until after the election process, understanding that I would pay a penalty for this choice. In light of this pointed inquiry, I did choose to pay all property taxes outstanding in full.”

Cronin said he does not think being late on taxes is relevant to his candidacy.

Cronin faces Kathy Peace for the seat formerly held by Phil Fisher, who is now a Hinds County supervisor.
