McCullough, Russell polite in Monroe County GOP debate
Glenn McCullough Jr. of Tupelo and Dr. Randy Russell of Oxford responded to questions from a panel about military involvement in Iraq, tax cuts and immigration.
“I believe in the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage and the sanctity of Liberty,” said McCullough, a former Tupelo mayor and former chairman of the TVA board.
Russell, an ophthalmologist and long-time Republican activist, touted his pro-life, pro-family and pro-conservative history.
“I try to live a life of service,” Russell told the audience of about 50 people, including Jim Herring, chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party.
Among the highlights of their responses to panelists’ questions:
– What needs to be done to address the mortgage crisis?
McCullough – Wants to make sure federal mortgage programs are working properly. Lower taxes help a struggling economy.
Russell – There’s too much easy credit and that’s why we’re in trouble. Need to make Bush tax cuts permanent.
