Mayor Frank Melton, who this week faced foreclosure proceedings on his northeast Jackson home, is late in paying almost $10,000 in property taxes.
The taxes on his property at 2 Carter’s Grove and four nearby lots were due to the Hinds County taxcollector’s office by Feb. 1.
Melton also owes about $9,000 in property taxes for his house in Flint, Texas, where taxes were due Jan. 31. His wife, Ellen, who is a doctor, resides there. It’s also where they claim homestead exemption.
The mayor did not return repeated calls for comment.
