Taylor joins Bay fight against FEMA

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 21, 2008

The Sun Herald, 2/21/8

Help has begun to appear in a fight against FEMA flood elevation standards that many consider a threat to Bay St. Louis.

To some, the pending battle between a small town and a federal agency appeared all but impossible. But in the past two weeks, new developments have occurred:

Since FEMA released its advisory flood elevation maps in January, residents, elected officials and business leaders have been shocked at the possible ramifications. The elevations mean future first-floor construction in large swaths of the city would have to begin at 20 feet off the ground, and in some places higher than that.
