4th special judge appointed to clear Hinds County docket

Jackson lawyer Trent Walker, 39, accepted the appointment Monday to an 11-month term. He is expected to serve as a special judge through Dec. 31. The appointment could be extended.

“Trent will do an outstanding job to further reduce the backlog in the Hinds County Circuit Court criminal system,” Chief Justice Jim Smith said in a statement.

The appointment of Walker, who is African American, comes after black lawyers group the Magnolia Bar Association last week criticized that only white males had been appointed special judges in Hinds County.
