Freshman state Sen. David Baria on Tuesday filed a bill seeking a resolution of support for U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor’s multi-perils insurance bill, which is languishing in the U.S. Senate.
“I think it is important for the Mississippi Legislature to show its support for Congressman Taylor’s efforts to alleviate the insurance crisis we face on the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” Baria said.
The bill Taylor co-wrote would add wind coverage to the National Flood Insurance Program. The U.S. House passed the bill last year, but the Senate banking committee stripped the wind coverage from it. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., has blocked a vote by the full Senate because optional wind coverage and higher coverage limits were not included.
