About 2,500 people are expected today for Gov. Haley Barbour’s inauguration activities, which include a swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol and a lavish late-night ball.
Among attendees will be state lawmakers, Mississippi’s congressional delegation and other dignitaries. They will hear what the powerful Republican governor may have in store for the next four years.
The celebration has been scaled down for Barbour’s second term, though, cut from a week’s worth of events in 2004 to a two-day schedule this year – including a prayer breakfast Monday.
