Dowdy’s word: No 2nd term

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 11, 2008

The Sun Herald, 1/11/8

Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Dowdy said Thursday he will not seek election to a second term when a chairman is chosen in May.

Dowdy, a 64-year-old lawyer from McComb, said he told party members he would only serve one term and is sticking to his word.

“Democrats in Mississippi need to learn how to gain financial backing,” Dowdy said. “We had a great lineup of Democratic candidates… but we were not able to match Republican financing. Our candidates were vastly outspent by the Republicans.”
