Reeves ends election dispute

The Mississippi House won’t have to consider an election dispute involving one of its former longtime members.

Jackson lawmaker John Reeves said Tuesday he will end his months-long challenge of a loss to Adrienne Wooten, a Democrat who twice defeated him.

Reeves, a Republican, said he will pull a petition he filed with the House seeking to regain the District 71 seat he had held since 1984.

Reeves added that this isn’t the end of his public service career.

“I will be back,” he said. “This is not the end by any means. It’s simply a respite.”
