Childers raises $100,000 in first week as congressional candidate

As potential candidates consider whether to enter the open race in Mississippi’s first congressional district before Friday’s qualifying deadline, one candidate, Prentiss County businessman and Chancery Clerk Travis Childers, announced on Tuesday afternoon that his campaign has reached an important milestone. Since entering the race last Wednesday, Childers has raised more than one hundred thousand dollars to finance his campaign.

“I am humbled and overwhelmed by the show of support from friends and colleagues since I announced for Congress last week,” Childers said. “My work in public service and business, combined with our early planning, are helping us to put together the money, support and organization needed to win this campaign. We are prepared to win this election, and we are prepared to lead after the election.”

“This early support is an indicator that people are responding to our message of getting things done by working together across regional, governmental and party lines,” Childers said. “It is that North Mississippi spirit of bipartisanship and can-do attitude that I want to take to Washington.”

Travis Childers, a Democrat, has served as Chancery Clerk of Prentiss County for the past sixteen years. Childers has worked as a Realtor and appraiser in Booneville since 1978.
