Former Jackson Police Deputy Chief Tyrone Lewis violated policy and procedures and placed the city in a position of liability by allowing his son to throw private, for-profit parties at the police training academy, Chief Malcolm McMillin said Monday.
As a result, Lewis was demoted from deputy chief over training and recruitment to a sergeant in planning and research, McMillin said. The chief said Lewis was “ultimately responsible” for the parties being allowed at the training academy.
“We didn’t take any action until the investigation was completed,” McMillin said. “Our investigation is complete … This is the end of the story.”
