Coalition members call for charges

Members of the multiracial Philadelphia Coalition say potential new evidence against a reputed Klansman shows the case involving the 1964 slayings of three civil rights workers should be reinvestigated and reprosecuted.

“By all means,” said Leroy Clemons, president of the coalition that successfully pushed for the prosecution of Klansman Edgar Ray Killen, the 82-year-old former Union sawmill owner convicted in 2005 of orchestrating the slayings. “There’s no statute of limitations on murder.”

Today concludes a three-part series titled Buried Secrets, which revealed potential new evidence against reputed Klansman Billy Wayne Posey in the June 21, 1964, abductions and killings of Michael Schwerner, James Chaney and Andrew Goodman.
