The bribery charges against multimillionaire lawyer Dickie Scruggs and four others reads like it came out of the fertile mind of another Oxford lawyer: John Grisham.
But could Grisham, known for his blockbuster novels with courtroom settings, have even come up with something so bizarre? As fiction, who would believe it?
Here we have an attorney, Scruggs, himself the prototype for a major motion picture for winning billions for the state in litigation lodged against Big Tobacco (The Insider, starring Russell Crowe and Al Pacino).
But the attorney has won major league enemies as a result of litigation he filed in the wake of the worst natural disaster in U.S. history, Hurricane Katrina, which struck his home and neighbors on the Coast.
