The “flap” between the Jackson City Council and Mayor Frank Melton over paying the $46,000 extra in raises for his police appointments is a bonafide concern that has taxpayers up in arms.
But cooler heads need to prevail so innocent city workers aren’t penalized by Melton’s hard-headedness.
On a 3-3 vote at Monday’s work session, Council members did not approve raises for former Melton bodyguard Michael Recio promoted to an assistant chief, bodyguard Marcus Wright promoted to sergeant, Lt. Gerald Jones and Capt. L.C. Russell.
