Melton to seek hearing date for police chief choice

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 28, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/28/7

Mayor Frank Melton is expected to ask the City Council today to schedule a confirmation hearing on Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin as the city’s police chief, and some council members still are questioning the legality of someone holding both positions at once.

Also at today’s special meeting, council members will revisit approving the city’s payroll.

On Tuesday, three council members balked at approving the payroll because of questions about retroactive raises for several promoted police officers that an interim chief approved. The impasse threatens paychecks for all city workers.
