All city of Jackson employees’ paychecks likely will be converted to direct bank deposit, a move that will save the city about $60,000 a year.
The City Council delayed a vote on the matter Tuesday, opting instead to send it to the budget committee for discussion and to allow time for employees to be educated on how direct deposit works.
About one-third, or 774, of the city’s employees still receive paper checks. The other 1,803 receive direct deposit.
