Jackson Mayor Frank Melton, who is being investigated by federal and state officials, is losing some of his support base in the business community.
The first-term mayor has been criticized lately for his police promotions, for using police vehicles to transport kids and their families to his home for barbecue and for refusing to balance the fiscal 2008 budget.
“The people who are critical of me, I invite them to come and spend a day in my shoes,” said Melton, who noted that downtown economic development is blossoming under his administration. “The only thing I ask the people to do is just look at the results. Until they spend a half a day in my shoes, they have no right to criticize me.”
