If you were among Mississippians receiving a tax bill in a mass mailing last month of about 40,000 notices, you have at least a temporary reprieve.
State tax officials announced Thursday they would stop collecting individual income tax bills from notices dated from Sept. 24-28 until the bills are reviewed and errors are corrected.
Lawmakers said they may investigate why some of the 40,000 bills were mistakenly sent. And accountants who have protested the mistakes cited past problems with the Mississippi Tax Commission, including lost and misplaced checks.
