New Albany woman pleads guilty to mail fraud

Margaret Parks McLennan, a former employee of Parks Chevrolet Co. in New Albany, pleaded guilty Friday to mail fraud.

Circuit Judge L. Breland Hilburn sentenced her to five years’ supervised probation after suspending a prison term of five years. The judge also ordered her to pay restitution of $148,575.14 at $500 a month, beginning Dec. 1.

State Auditor Phil Bryant said that between December 2002 and May 2004, McLennan had created false invoices for vehicles purchased by the state and submitted them by mail for payment.

After the sentencing, agents for Bryant’s office handed McLennan a demand letter for restitution.
