Jackson Mayor Frank Melton?s attorneys this afternoon will attempt to discredit claims by Robert Earl Pierce that Pierce suffered anxiety, depression, neck and back pain and sleeplessness as a result of a memo the mayor leaked to the press in 2003 when he was director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
This morning Pierce, a former MBN agent, testified that he was in good health at the time of the leak, despite having had back and neck surgery in the preceding three years. All that changed when a story appeared in The Clarion-Ledger April 18, 2003 implicating him and another agent in allegations of misuse of federal equipment and money.
