PROGRESS FOR ALL OF JACKSON – NOT JUST DOWNTOWN
(February 14, 2005 – Jackson) – Democratic candidate Frank Melton today welcomed incumbent Harvey Johnson to the Jackson Mayoral race. Melton, a successful Jackson businessman, questioned whether Jackson is better off after 8 years and noted Johnson’s continual focus on downtown projects.
“As Mayor I will focus not only on downtown revitalization, but will reach out to the neighborhoods that are deteriorating in Jackson,” said Frank Melton.
Incumbent Harvey Johnson’s Union Station backdrop to announce his re-election campaign was a project envisioned and initiated by former Mayor, Kane Ditto. In contrast Melton chose the neighborhood of 60 year-old Bobbie Johnson on the corner of Lamar Street and Lamar Court, just blocks away from downtown, where the homes are in a deplorable condition. He also noted the condition of the homes on Farish Street that were recently renovated and are already uninhabitable.
