Hood campaign releases poll from contracted pollster showing lead over Reeves

By: Sarah Ulmer - May 15, 2019

A recent poll commissioned by Democrat Jim Hood’s Campaign showed Hood over Republican Tate Reeves 45%-40%.

The poll was conducted by Hickman Analytics, a company often utilized by Democratic candidates. The poll consisted of live telephone interviews between May 5-9. The campaign said the poll was done among 605 likely general election voters and Democratic primary voters who could be reached by landline or cell phone.

The campaign declined to release crosstabs or any data surrounding poll questions.

Below is the memo sent by the Hood campaign on the data collected:

The press release sent out by the campaign said the poll reported Hood was viewed more favorably than Reeves, with a 41% favorably rating, to Reeves’s 28% favorable rating. Both were reported to have similar levels of name ID.

The memo did not specify location, age ranges, or demographics of those polled.

When asked for cross tabs, a script of the telephone poll or demographics of those who were polled, a representative of the campaign told Y’all Politics that the memo was all they would be releasing to the press.
