- The retirement of Judge Chase Ford Morgan created a vacancy in the Marion County Chancery Court District.
A youth court referee and special master in Marion County has been appointed by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) to fill a vacancy in the 10th Chancery Court District.
Current Judge Chase Ford Morgan plans to retire on August 16, creating a vacancy in the judicial seat. In response, Governor Reeves has appointed Renee McBride Porter of Columbia to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term, starting August 17.
“Renee has devoted her career to serving Mississippi families and children,” said Governor Reeves in a statement. “Her experience in chancery and youth court matters, combined with her commitment to public service, makes her exceptionally qualified to serve the people of the 10th Chancery Court District.”
Porter has a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.
After graduating college, she established a private practice in 1989 focusing on chancery court cases. In that time, Porter’s gain trial and appellate experience, successfully winning appeals before the Mississippi Court of Appeals and Mississippi Supreme Court.
Porter also has 12 years of experience as Marion County’s guardian ad litem and as the city prosecutor for the city of Columbia.
She is running unopposed for the chancery judgeship in District 10, Place 1 in the election set for November 3.
