YP – Mississippi flies new flag over State Capitol
The state of Mississippi officially flew a new flag for the first time since 1861. Replacing the former flag is the “In God We Trust” flag which was selected by a Commission and voted on by the public in the November 2020 election.
The flag was ratified by the Mississippi Legislature within the first two days of the 2021 session. HB 1 was voted on by the House and Senate, officially allowing the bill to move forward to the Governor who signed it into law on Monday at 2:30pm.
The signing took place at the Two Mississippi Museums before officials made their way to the State Capitol building where three flags were raised atop the building.

YP – Democrat-led electoral college pledge bill to disenfranchise millions of MS voters introduced
State Senator David Blount has introduced a bill that would commit Mississippi’s electoral votes to the national presidential election winners regardless of what Mississippians voted.
In an interview, Blount stated, “I believe the person who gets the most votes should win. It’s getting a lot of interest across the country.”
In Mississippi in 2020, Donald Trump received 57.1% of the vote while Joe Biden received only 41.1% of the vote. Under the bill in an identical situation, all of Mississippi’s electoral votes would be pledged to Biden, thus disenfranchising millions of Mississippi voters.

They also requested the current status adding the perpetrators of last week’s attack on the Capitol to watchlists.

YP – AG Fitch asks FDA to report on progress in opioid fight
Attorney General Lynn Fitch joined a bipartisan coalition of 48 attorneys general in pushing federal regulators to examine recent progress in the national fight against opioid abuse.
“The opioid epidemic has ravaged communities around the globe, bringing devastation from the loss of loved ones and the crippling impact on our healthcare system and economy,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “I remain unwavering in my commitment to end the opioid epidemic in Mississippi and will continue to leverage all tools at my disposal to protect our families and our communities.”
The bipartisan coalition seeks a progress report regarding recent steps taken by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to combat the opioid crisis, given the new authorities Congress granted the agency in 2018.
