Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate and Democrat Vice Presidential hopeful Stacey Abrams endorsed Mississippi U.S. Senate candidate and fellow Democrat Mike Espy on Thursday.
Abrams, who spent time in the state as a child, said in a tweet (shown below) that Espy is ready to lead on day one. In her endorsement, Abrams said Espy will work to expand “economic opportunity, access to affordable health care, and an end to voter suppression.”

Espy, in a tweet sharing Abrams’ support, said he was “honored to have the official endorsement of my friend and fellow Mississippi native,” adding, “If there’s anyone who knows about tough fights, it’s Stacey. We can win in Mississippi—together.”
Both Democrats have endorsed their party’s presidential nominee, Joe Biden, and both have voiced strong support of the expansion of Medicaid and no excuse mail-in voting.
Espy tweeted on Wednesday that the time to expand Medicaid in Mississippi “was yesterday.”

Espy has also taken issue recently with Secretary of State Michael Watson over his office’s plans to assist and protect voters as they head to the polls in November, calling them “an infamous Republican intimidation tactic.”
We can't be tone deaf or ignore the lessons of history. When voting, all Mississippi voters should truly feel safe.
I'm thankful for @MSDPVoPro advocating against measures like placing uniformed troops at polls, an infamous Republican intimidation tactic.
