The Voter Protection Project has endorsed Democrat Mike Espy in the Mississippi U.S. Senate race.
According to the release, the Voter Protection Project was first founded in 2019 and are “a leading political arm working to end partisan gerrymandering and voter suppression across the country.”
“VPP has been taking the fight to Republicans state-by-state supporting candidates for office at the federal and state levels that are champions for voter equality,” the release states. “This cycle, VPP is focused on getting involved in some of the toughest races in the country and fighting the bad actors — that’s exactly what they’re planning to do here in Mississippi.”
The organization’s ‘About Us‘ page leads with the following:
The Voter Protection Project will fight back against President Trump’s and Republicans’ attacks on our right to vote, by leading the charge to make sure every American has the right to cast a ballot.
We can’t sit back as Donald Trump, Congressional Republicans, and conservative legislatures around the country attack our fundamental right to vote. They know the best way to stay in power isn’t with a unifying message Americans can rally behind – it’s rooted in deliberate efforts to keep young Americans, people of color, and disenfranchised communities from casting a ballot.
The Voter Protection Project seeks to ensure not only that we fight back against Trump’s attack on our right to vote – but that we make sure another Donald Trump never reached the White House.
The group’s “enfranchisement agenda” includes automatic voter registration and online voter registration, same day registration, convenient early voting, and “no excuse” absentee voting.
VPP, based out of Seattle, Washington, has endorsed a bevy of Democrat candidates for U.S. House and Senate, including Alabama’s U.S. Sen. Doug Jones.
