Congressman Guest Promotes Nonprofit Security Grant Program

By: Sarah Ulmer - January 30, 2020

Today, Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) highlighted the importance of improving security measures for nonprofits, 501(c)(3) organizations including houses of worship, and supported steps taken by the Administration to advance prevention of violent acts targeting faith-based institutions. The Nonprofit Security Grant Program expands access to funding opportunities that can help nonprofit organizations enhance their security systems. Qualifying security enhancements include, but are not limited to, fencing, surveillance cameras, enhanced entry ways, windows, alarms and communications systems, staff and personnel training, and contract security guards. As a Member of the Committee on Homeland Security and its Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery Subcommittee, Congressman Guest has supported programs to enhance security for nonprofit organizations.

“Ensuring valuable tools and resources are available to nonprofit organizations, including houses of worship, plays a major role in making our communities safer places to live, worship, and raise a family,” Guest said.  “The Nonprofit Security Grant Program will offer nonprofit organizations critical funding to support their security initiatives. This is a great mechanism to help prevent cases of violence targeting faith-based institutions and other situations that could harm members in our community. I will continue to support President Trump and work with other Members of Congress to provide communities in Mississippi with the tools and resources they need to strengthen security measures.”
