MS House Democrats announce Caucus Leadership

By: Frank Corder - January 28, 2020

Mississippi House Democrats announced Robert Johnson would be leading their caucus this term, but had not until now released the other elected positions within the minority party leadership team.

Two female freshmen legislators will help guide Democrats in the House.  Shanda Yates (HD 64) was named Deputy Chair and Zakiya Summers (HD 68) will be the Caucus Information Officer.

“I am honored to have been elected Deputy Minority Leader of the House Democratic Caucus,” Rep. Yates said in a tweet.  “As a freshman legislator this is especially humbling.  I will work hard to ensure a productive and meaningful legislative session for the benefit of all Mississippians.”

Rep. Summers said in a tweet she looked forward to “serving well in this capacity, organizing and expanding access to information for media, advocacy orgs, gen’l public, etc.”

Bryant Clark (HD 47) will serve as Secretary with John Faulkner (HD 5) as Treasurer.
