Today, Attorney General-Elect Lynn Fitch joined Vice President Mike Pence and a bipartisan group of state and local leaders from across the nation on a conference call to kick off the White House’s Governor’s Initiative on Regulatory Innovation. General-Elect Fitch was invited to be one of about 100 Champions of regulatory reform because of her record as Treasurer and her agenda as Attorney General.
“I am proud to join Vice President Pence as a Champion of regulatory innovation,” said Fitch. “The Trump Administration has demonstrated that economic power can be unleashed by freeing small businesses and citizens of unnecessary red tape, which in turn empowers them to create jobs, invest in critical capital improvements, and grow our economy.”
As Treasurer, Fitch made it a priority to thoroughly review and update the regulations in the Office of the State Treasurer. For example, Fitch reformed regulations to close loopholes that left taxpayer money vulnerable to highly sophisticated counterfeiting methods. As Chair of the College Savings Mississippi Board, she also led an overhaul of the rules governing MPACT (Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition), which resulted in a program that is cost-neutral to taxpayers and more accessible to all Mississippians.
“As part of my agenda as Mississippi’s new Attorney General I plan to continue this momentum,” continued Fitch, “true accountability to the people we serve requires that we keep a sharp eye on the government regulatory structure and fix the problems before they negatively impact livelihoods.”
The President recently announced the Governor’s Initiative for Regulatory Innovation which will be led by Vice President Pence. General-Elect Fitch and the other Champions were chosen to lead this work in their home states and cities.
