WLOX – Fitch vs. Taggart: All eyes on the GOP battle for Attorney General
“If you’ve got the intersection of policy and law and finance and administration… you’re ready to go and that’s the person you want to start with you on day one,” said Fitch.
Andy Taggart says it’s his life and career experiences that have prepared him.
“For 34 years, I’ve been an active courtroom advocate which is what I think the people of Mississippi deserve in their Attorney General,” Taggart noted.
Taggart believes the key distinguishing factor between the two is that he’s a practicing attorney, including being hired by three Governors to defend the state’s laws.
“So, I’ve served in the role of the Attorney General when the Attorney General wouldn’t,” he said.
WLOX – Circuit Clerk sets the record straight on “magical thumb drive” in Newman/DeLano race
The canvassing of the ballots for the Senate Distrcit 50 race recount is set to begin Wednesday morning at Harrison County Circuit Clerk Connie Ladner’s office. But ahead of that recount, Ladner wants to set the record straight about what happened with the original vote count in the extremely tight race between Dixie Newman and Scott DeLano.
A day after the August 6 election, DeLano was quoted by The Sun Herald newspaper expressing his surprise when “a magical thumb drive” appeared after the initial vote count showed him winning the Senate seat. In the final certified vote, Dixie Newman ended up winning the seat by one vote.
Ladner promised voters on Monday that her office is able to say without question that, “every citizen who lawfully voted, had their vote counted and it was verified.”
