Palazzo Votes Against Amnesty for Undocumented Immigrants

By: Sarah Ulmer - June 5, 2019

Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4)today released the following statement after opposing H.R. 6 which provides amnesty for illegal immigrants.

“I find it reprehensible that Democrats want to provide mass amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants instead of focusing on the actual crisis on our border. We should not pass legislation that rewards illegal behavior and incentivizes hundreds of thousands of more people to march toward our borders. We have immigration loopholes that demand Congressional action and Democrats have chosen to pass a bill that won’t see the light of day in the Senate.”

In FY19 alone, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) has apprehended over half a million illegal immigrants at the southern border. In the first three weeks of May, CBP has apprehended more immigrants along the southern border than the entirety of April.

The legislation which passed the Democrat-controlled House includes no reforms to close the existing loopholes in our immigration system.

The legislation passed on a vote of 237 to 187 with Palazzo opposing the bill’s passage.
