DAILY JOURNAL – Wilemon won’t seek fifth term in state senate
State Sen. J.P. Wilemon Jr., D-Belmont, will not seek re-election next year.
Wilemon has served in the state Senate for 15 years, and he will complete his fourth term at the end of 2019.
“We get older,” Wilemon said, explaining his reason for not seeking another term. “I just decided it was time to get out. I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a good 15 years.”
Wilemon would like to see the classroom teachers and assistant teachers get pay raises and improvements made to libraries and state parks.

WTVA – Oxford police chief announces run for sheriff
Oxford Police Chief Joey East has plans to follow in his father’s footsteps and run for Lafayette County Sheriff.
East made the announcement during Tuesday night’s board of aldermen meeting, according to hottytoddy.com.
East is the son of Mississippi’s longest-serving Sheriff “Buddy” East, who died in September at the age of 76-years-old.
