Motion for TRO in NAACP-backed lawsuit to change absentee voter deadline is denied

A case filed by three Mississippi residents and the Mississippi Chapter of the NAACP against the State of Mississippi and Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann suffered a serious blow today in Judge Dan Jordan’s courtroom.

The suit was largely viewed as a prophylactic suit that would be a vehicle to prosecute if the race were close and absentee ballots became statistically meaningful. The lawsuit sought a temporary restraining order to change the absentee-voter deadline. The motion for the TRO (above) was denied.
